Nipawin is truly a four season destination. There are many activities and recreational opportunities available during the winter months. Nipawin has everything from cross country skiing to curling to skating and snowmobiling. You will not be disappointed.
Cross country ski trails are located in the Nipawin and District Regional Park. If you’re looking for a challenge, try the ski trails north of the river in the scenic boreal forest. Twenty minutes outside of Nipawin you can find some of the prairies best downhill skiing at Wapiti Valley Ski Resort.
Snowmobiling is an active winter sport as well, with groomed trails and miles of fresh snow. Each winter 250 miles of trails are groomed and marked. Special events such as the Peace 100 Snowmobile Rally attract 300+ riders annually.
Nipawin Centennial and Jubilee Arena Complex provides artificial ice and is the scene of many hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating functions during the winter months. In summer the arena is used for other programs. East Pleasantview Rink and Pinedale Outdoor Rink also provide additional skating facilities.
Nipawin also has an excellent curling facility and hosts world-renowned bonspiels as well as local leagues and school classes. The Evergreen Centre has six sheets of ice and one of the best viewing areas in Saskatchewan. World and Olympic Champions, such as Randy Ferby and Sandra Schmirler, have thrilled Saskatchewan curling fans from this venue and the Evergreen is no stranger to many European teams.
