Health Care
The Town of Nipawin is located in the Kelsey Trail Health District – the administrative body responsible for the area’s health care services. The other acute care facilities within the District are located in Melfort, Tisdale, Porcupine Plain, Kelvington and Hudson Bay. There are six hospitals located in the Kelsey Trail Health District, of which Nipawin Hospital is one.
The Nipawin Hospital was built in 1986. Operating at a 31 bed capacity,of which 26 beds are for medical/surgical purposes and two for obstetrical purposes, this modern facility is well equipped to provide service to Nipawin and the surrounding region. Combined with Associated Radiologists of Saskatoon modern technology is available to an advanced x-ray department. Some of the technology available for the diagnostic radiologist on staff includes diagnostic ultrasound devices providing more accurate and safe diagnosis for patients. The facility is connected to Pineview Lodge, a 96 bed long-term care facility. Pineview Lodge is connected to the hospital by a covered walkway, amalgamated requirements such as food services. The connection of the two facilities has resulted in additional efficiency and increased quality service.
A radiologist, a general surgeon, dietician, occupational therapist, technicians, three physiotherapists, and a medical social worker have privileges at the Nipawin Hospital. Nipawin has two clinics with capacity for twelve doctors. Services are provided to Nipawin and the surrounding communities of Cumberland House, Red Earth, Shoal Lake and Smeaton. Two optometrists, a chiropractor, two dental clinics and a denture clinic also service the community. A physician practice and two nurse practitioners provide service to Carrot River, Arborfield and Zenon Park. Nipawin is home to the North-East EMS, Home Care and Public Health offices.![iStock_000005787159XSmall[1]](http://www.nipawin.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/iStock_000005787159XSmall1-300x225.jpg)
