 Monday, June 2nd - Provincial Media Day Fishing
Each spring, media from all across Saskatchewan come to Nipawin for the kickoff to the Great Northern Pike Festival.
The media representatives enjoy a day of golfing at the Evergreen Golf Club, and a day of fishing on Tobin Lake.
The fishing day always starts with the Tag Burning. At the Tag Burning, all this year's tag numbers are put into sealed
envelopes, and three are drawn. These three are the major prize tags, and the other tag numbers are burned.
The major prize tags are kept sealed until the end of the tournament. Then the media head out with local guides to
catch, tag, and release the fish for the tournament. All the fish tagged for the year's festival are tagged on Media Day.The 2007 Provincial Media Day is featured in the pictures below. Pictures from previous Media Days are available in the archive.
