Agriculture is a vital part of life within Saskatchewan with approximately $3.67 billion of exports leaving the province. The surrounding municipalities in Nipawin’s trading area include Torch River, Connaught, Arborfield, and Moose Range. In 2001, 1,430 farms operated in Nipawin and the surrounding municipalities with the majority of the size between 240 to 2,239 acres.
The major crops for the Nipawin trading area include spring wheat, oats, barley, flax, canola and peas. In 2004, there were 197.6 bushels per hectare of spring wheat yielded. 447.2 of oats, 321 of barley, 138.5 of fall rye, 62 of flax, 124.8 of canola yielded, as well as 9,696 pounds of peas and 5,753 lbs of canary seed. Arborfield is the only surrounding municipality yielding 40 bushels of winter wheat and 55 bushels of durum per acre in 2004. Connaught is the only area to yield 570 pounds of lentils per acre out of the surrounding municipalities.
